Au N. – “This gym changed my life! In the past 4 years I have been coming here I have never done the exact same workout twice, I feel so much better about my health and wish I would have started exercising sooner. The Staff is wonderful, remembers each Guest personally and takes a genuine interest in improving your fitness game. Highly recommend and completely worth the money.”
Julie T. – “Hey y’all… Just wanted to say a gigantic thank you for my classes and the YEARS of hard work on your part and making Cappy’s a place where ALL kinds of folks can feel safe and supported. That is no easy feat! You guys have had a profoundly positive influence on my life and own teaching path and countless others. Read more...I put my certificate up in my classroom and the students LOVE that I do boxing. I think there are some of us in life that need to branch off from our biological families and create our own logical families. I am proud to say that Cappy’s most definitely is a part of my circle of logical family that has and continues to help me grow and access more joy! Thank you!”
Mary Anne N. – “I haven’t punched anyone or anything since I was nine years old. And I apologized to my brother, as the full extension of my first into his nose truly was an accident. So imagine my surprise when I discovered just recently that I love boxing. Read more...Not the kind where you hit and get hit; that scares me. No,I love the boxing you do in a one hour circuit training workout that involves various kinds of cardio torture followed by three minute rounds with the bags. Speed bags, uppercut bags, heavy bags, big brown bags. I love them all. The first time I walked in the boxing gym my fear was twofold. I was out of shape and I didn’t know jack about boxing. Last week my coach told me that my skills were really improving and that I should consider sparring in the ring. Wow! I declined citing my lack of passion for getting hit in the face, yet I couldn’t help but notice that the rest of my workout was way more focused. I kinda felt like a boxer! As I evaluated my progression from klutz to Championship Belt (ok a little over the top) I recognized the brilliance of my trainer. Her methodology is a terrific lesson in coaching. She explained the reason for a technique, demonstrated the technique, waited until I got that one down before introducing another, and encouraged me from class to class. But what was really impressive to me was her lesson in leadership. When she suggested that I spar, she made the next step accessible to me by making it possible in my imagination. When she stepped forward and asked me to follow, she led me to the confidence I needed to elevate my game. Because of her encouragement and skillful guidance, I now work a lot harder every time I am in the gym. In a nutshell, the coaching steps were explain, demonstrate, correct, add more, and encourage. The leadership was an invitation.”
Philip and Kiril P. – “Kiril just made the Seattle United Select Soccer Club. He wanted to say thank you for all the training. His athleticism and coordination definitely improved after the Personal Coaching Sessions and Youth Program in the summer and early fall. He has been trying out for the last 3 years and finally made it this year.”
Jason J. – “I came across the article on they gym in last Thursday’s Wall Street Journal and some of your other recent press. It fondly reminded me of my time at the gym in 2005-2006, and how much that experience helped me during a bumpy time in life and positively impacted my way of thinking, which is something that continues to make a difference today. Read more...I was a graduate student then and only made it to the gym 1-2 times a week, but always looked forward to those workouts and felt like a better person for it, physically and mentally. I moved to Moscow, Russia, after getting my degree and did a bit of workout boxing there, and now live in Washington, DC, where I tried out one of the local gyms, but it was certainly nothing close to my experience at Cappy’s. Anyway, I know a lot of people go through your gym, but reading about it again made me want to send an overdue note of thanks to you (and also Trish) – many years later – for that experience, and all the encouragement and training that has made a difference. It actually has me motivated to try to find another gym here and pick boxing back up again! Thank you again and congratulations, too, on the gym’s growth and your success!”
Julie O. – “The inspiration, motivation, and warm family atmosphere that leaks out of Cappy’s Boxing Gym ferments into the pit of each client’s stomach, and molds into a supercharged magnet; always pulling back to the humble red building on 22nd and Union.Read more...
[There is] a personal connection with at least one coach has been established even before any shoes have been laced, wraps have been wrapped, bells have rung, or jump ropes have slapped the floor.
Whether the comment directed towards you in each 3 minute round is of an encouraging or corrective nature, it is sure to channel the immediate appreciated feeling into strengthening the mid-gut magnet.
The fact that these coaches so wholly believe in and are dedicated to the work they do at Cappy’s finds a way to push me to complete more mountain-climbers or rapid-fire punches than I ever thought to be physically possible.
So when I look over the log that I kept of hours spent working out at Cappy’s between July 6th and September 7th this summer, it comes as no surprise to me that it totaled just under 80 hours-equaling a most wonderful 19% of my summer. Aside from the large smile that each class put on my face, and the friends I looked for each time I stepped into the gym, I would like to recognize that among other things, I gained both internal and physical strength, a better understanding of myself, and a new kind of confidence.
I want to thank each of the 5 coaches for providing me with different types of encouragement and guidance in both my workouts and my life. I could not appreciate more the level of comfort which I have continuously felt at Cappy’s since I first walked in the gym door in 2007, and I know that you 5 coaches are the reason for it. From the bottom of my heart: Thank You.”
Anonymous – “I just want thank you and everybody who works at Cappy’s! Because of my Cystic Fibrosis, I have never been big in working out, but my lung function was beginning to decrease. So, my doctor told me that if I would workout it would help keep my lungs clear and also help maintain and maybe even increase my lung function.Read more...
I thought that boxing would be a fun and challenging workout, so I looked up gyms and found Cappy’s. When I first started coming to Cappys, I was a little worried. I did not know how I was going to do, and how people there would look at me because I cough a lot when I exercise. But I could not be more grateful to everybody involved! The staff is so encouraging and they make me feel welcome. I especially like how everybody learned my name right from the beginning and during class would encourage me during my workout in a personal way by using my name. Also, because everybody is so encouraging and involved, it makes it harder to skip class because I feel that all of the staff is invested in my health and I don’t want to let you or me down.
I have been coming here for about two months now and could not feel better! I have more energy and my tolerance for exercise has increase exponentially!
It is because of this great experience that you have given me at Cappy’s that I will help you out anyway I can. Whether you need volunteer for events or money donated, I will always do whatever I can to help.”
Kelly S. – “This is overdue, but Cappy’s Boxing Gym was critical in my rehab after an injury in the Army.Read more...Cap did more for improving my gait (walking), balance, and general body awareness than all of my previous rehab specialists and prosthetic techs had done. They will help to improve your fitness for everyday life. Not many boxing gyms will do that. Cappy’s is the BEST!”
Jen G. – “After being away for over 4 years, I moved back to the neighborhood closer to Cappy’s. The staff welcomed me back, remembered my name (amazing), and are just as friendly and helpful as ever. This is a great gym, great workout, great value.”
