ML – I appreciate you all at Cappy’s, especially in terms of your knowledge of the body and how it works. I pretty much always have some jacked up part of my body, and normally I would just skip work-outs when things hurt, but I always know I can come to Cappy’s and the coaches will work with me, let me explore what works best for me, and offer me ideas and options.
Olivia M. – […] “I really can’t say enough good things about boxing for fitness. And now Cappy’s is my new happy place. The training is truly fantastic and the staff is incredibly kind. At other gyms I’ve been to, unless you’re willing to compete they will often ignore you. Cappy’s is very supportive and they have an amazing youth program of which I’m sure they are intensely proud. The teens are by far the most talented peeps at the gym.”
Kim S. – “I have been looking for a boxing gym for about three months. I’ve been to the cardio kickboxing places and really don’t find kicking things very gratifying. Punching however…that’s more my speed. There’s something satisfying about punching a heavy bag but I couldn’t find anywhere to go that would allow me to punch a bag and not require me to spar or enroll in boxing lessons. I don’t want to hit people or learn to fight in the ring…I just want to destress by punching heavy bags. :o) Read more...
I found Cappy’s on a google search and was so excited that they had just what I was looking for (I’m a beginner) a boxing fitness class! So I emailed my good friend (the friend that’s tried belly dancing and crew with me – up for any class – everyone needs a friend like that) and asked her to go with me.
True to the other reviews here on YELP the class started with jump rope, jumping jacks and mountain climbers. Then we went into circuit-style training moving from station to station. Also true – this class kicks your butt, but it’s fun as hell! Oh, and the instructor was amazing. I wish I could remember her name. She was incredibly attentive (as she could tell we were pretty lost) and took the time to show us what to do at every station we moved to. She also made us feel completely at ease and answered all our questions and walked around correcting people’s form.
It really is a great class and I highly recommend it to all levels (seriously -there was this guy there who was obviously incredibly advanced – somewhat scary but amazing). There were times I had to take a break (hopefully that will go away and I can make it through the hour) and I have to say that I never felt like the “idiot just standing there catching my breath”. Everyone really does go at their own pace. Oh, one piece of advice – be sure you bring water…lots and lots of water.
Sorry for the long review – I just got back and I’m excited!”
Christina S. – “LOVE this gym! Started coming to “boxing fitness” classes once a week during the summer. NOT to be confused with “kickboxing”. This one hour class consists of cardio (jump rope), strength and toning exercises, and you get to put on gloves and punch the bags. The instructors are great, they provide motivation and helpful feedback. The music is also very energizing. After going to a boxing fitness class, I am “done”; An awesome workout plus I get to take any frustrations out on the punching bag. Recommend any one looking to get in shape try a class (first one is only $5). Read more...It’s fun and an hour goes by so quickly, although there are times when I am dying and watching that clock! Happy with the results that I’ve seen so far. They also offer boxing lessons – for youth and adults.”
Trish Q. – “I went to Cappy’s today and I realized that I really loved this workout. The scary things is I loved punching the bags. I was very skeptical when I went and almost chickened out at the last minute. I never like to do things I am not good at in front of other people but when I walked in I was met by friendly people who made me feel welcome immediately. Read more...
The first part starts with jumping rope, I was seriously afraid I was going to hit someone with my rope but everyone jumps at their own pace. It is going to take a while to get the toe bounce jumping down.
Then the boxing and what I realized is I love punching things and I wanted to hit the bags really hard. You do circuit type training from one bag to the next with cardio in between. This is the most fun I have had in a workout class ever. I was pumped and having a blast. Now don’t get me wrong this workout kicks your ass, but the instructors allow you to go at your own pace and are extremely helpful and seem to really care to make certain you are keeping your form etc. The music is great and really gets you motivated.
I am going to sign up for more classes, the first one is only $5 so you can see if you like it than $23 a session or you can do month unlimited. This is nothing like a kickboxing class. You rotate from station to station and get an amazing workout and have a lot of fun doing it!”
Wayne K. – “I went to Cappy’s to take one of their boxing lessons. Watching all that Ultimate Fighting Challenge really got the best of me. Fortunately, Cappy’s let’s you try out their gym for a nominal fee. The first boxing lesson is $10 and the first boxing circuit training session is $5, so you can choose what type of workout you want. However, both are very similar, it’s just that the boxing lesson is half an hour longer and they actually give you boxing tips after all the circuit training work during that last half hour. What I liked most about Cappy’s was their flexible pricing plan. I’m not willing to give up my regular weightlifting workout at my local gym, so it was awesome to know that I could still get a boxing lesson plan where I can just come on Saturdays and practice what I learned on my own on my off-boxing days.
Also, Cappy’s is not one of those “hardcore” Rocky Balboa gyms where you walk-in and all the guys stare at you wondering what the heck you’re doing there. It’s a pretty friendly environment and Cappy is a really friendly guy. His other trainer is equally, if not more, friendly, so overall your first experience will most likely be great. However, it’s “hardcore” enough where you’ll meet seasoned boxers who have been in the ring for matches.
Overall, if you’re looking to learn to box and also have a great cardio workout at a great pricing plan, you should check out Cappy’s.”
Sherry W. – “I’ve been a member of Cappy’s Boxing Gym for 4 months and have a new appreciation of hard work with noticeable results. The circuit training is challenging and focused on a specific muscle groups and boxing strategies. Being paired with a partner is great. It allows us to challenge each other, improve our technique and focus on working as a team. I really like the engaging environment of the gym, men and woman of all abilities work out to their full capability, while being coached by a knowledge coach. Read more...Each coach spends time on boxing instruction, defense techniques and skill to motivating you to workout hard; even Cappy coaches’ classes. I’ve done the gambit of fitness classes and programs over the years and Cappy’s boxing classes provided a full body workout, confidence building, boxing techniques and are focused and fun. What is also special about the Cappy’s gym is that staff knows each persons name.”
Rachel A. – “I had been working out at Cappy’s Boxing Gym for over 2 years when I learned I was pregnant with my fourth child. I loved going to the regular fitness classes at 6:15 AM and wondered if I would be able to continue, being pregnant. While some days were more grueling than others, I was thrilled that in fact, I was able to workout all the way up until I delivered the baby. Quite literally at 9 months pregnant, I participated in the Monday morning fitness class and 12 hours later, was in active labor!Read more...Throughout the pregnancy, the coaches were amazing in providing alternatives as needed to modify my workout, and the classes are such that you can do your own self-regulation as well. I feel strongly that my workouts throughout my pregnancy improved my stamina for the pregnancy and for the birth. And after some much needed recovery, I was welcomed back at Cappy’s just six weeks after delivering my baby, having lost all of the weight and feeling stronger both mentally and physically for my active baby. Cappy’s was a great place to workout before I was pregnant, and it continues to be my &#e2;P c;go-to&#e2;P d; exercise and sport. Having experienced firsthand how flexible the coaching and classes are, it’s a great choice for anyone!”
Amber E. – “Working as a Loss Prevention agent at a major retailer has given me the opportunity to apply many of the things I have learned at Cappy’s in my day-to-day life. While my self defense skills have improved immensely, the biggest change I have noticed in myself is an increase in confidence. Read more...That confidence that I now project has proven itself to be very valuable at work, as people now take me more seriously, especially those I must deal with in a confrontational manner. The assertiveness I now have puts an end to potentially bad situations before they even have a chance to start.”
Jonathan H. – “Cappy’s is the real deal. I started boxing lessons two weeks ago, and this is by far the most amazing hour and a half workout I’ve ever endured, but it’s so much more than just a workout. You learn real technique, practice with all the right equipment, and spar with the right kind of people. Read more...The instructors are friendly, helpful and encouraging, and good at pairing people of different experience levels. I used to train kickboxing, but a new job and schedule made it impossible to make it in time for classes and I’ve been looking for a viable replacement. I found something even better at Cappy’s. One thing you’ll get here that makes it incomparable to other gyms is the full contact sparring. You’ll learn proper defense, and re-train your body to react the “right way”. This will do amazing things for your confidence. If you’re not into the idea of punching people or getting hit, there are non-contact fitness classes too. Check out the site and give it a shot.”
